TL;DR 1953 is a unique, freehold mixed development in District 8, comprising 6 Storeys with shops at the ground level, that merges with 7 conservation shophouses dating from 1953. Modernised yet retaining its Art Deco architectural legacy, we like their concept of incorporating conservation shophouses with a new building. The limited number of these properties, especially in prime central areas, and their freehold tenure enables 1953 to be a one-of-a-kind type of asset to behold.

The Development

This freehold mixed development, 1953 pays tribute to the year the shophouses were built – in Art Deco style with 1953 displayed prominently at the top. In fact, 1953 is fronted by a row of seven Art Deco-style conservation shophouses along Balestier Road. Located at the junction of Balestier and Tessensohn Roads, 1953 was highly regarded as an iconic landmark.

Comprising 58 apartments and 14 strata commercial units, 1953 combines old-world charm with modern design sensibilities.Seven of the project’s retail shops and nine residential units will be housed in a row of conservation shophouses, while the rest of the units are part of a new six-storey development.
